Get better upper management
Very disappointed that the AC in the room wasn't working. The elevator in our building wasn't working. I can see how this resort in Punta Cana was really special in previous years but no AC, no elevator, questionable food and not as clean as it could have been made this a disappointing trip. The staff tried their best. It is my feeling that upper management is too busy cutting corners to increase profits which will lead to ultimate failure of this resort.
Simply, just don’t waste your money
Stayed at the Barcelo Hotel Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, what a let down. Booked the Royal level all inclusive to ensure the best service. However, the facilities are poor, but much more importantly, the food was terrible. The Royal level restaurant is a satellite station, and food is cooked at a different location and delivered by golf carts. Always cold, and the quality and choice, very poor. Clearly, this is a massive, very new hotel that has been designed for an efficient cost base that doesn’t work.
The facilities and staffing is nowhere near what the capacity of the rooms need for an enjoyable experience. The one main bar is small and although the hotel was probably only half full, the wait fur a drink was painful.
Despite attempts to complain, the management do not seem interested, and despite repeated requests to speak to the manager, she was not going to speak to me.
Stay away, this is clearly a hotel chain that focuses on profit, not service.
RUDE AND UNHELPFUL STAFF
Update to my earlier review. I eventually received a reply from so called customer services who gave me a UK number to call and was advised that they would assist. The first girl put the phone down on me when I asked for a manager and the second girl when I called back directed me to the website that had directed me to her. I wasted an hour on the two calls and it was very hard work as there was a language barrier and the 2 girls were just so so rude. AVOID THE BARCELO GROUP FULL STOP
Disappointed at Barcelo, Benidorm
We booked a Superior double room with lateral sea views at Barcelo Beach, Benidorm for 3 nights. We went by car, and finding the hotel through the maze of one way streets, pedestrianised zones and no entries was a nightmare. Whilst the first floor room was OK, it was opposite, and close to, another building giving no privacy, and overlooking a sports cafe / bar which was noisy and smelly. We asked if they had an alternative and they offered us a smaller, cheaper room, with no rebate. When I asked if there was a better alternative, they wanted €90 extra but then finally agreed to €45 extra. Nearby street parking is impossible so we had no alternative but to use the hotel car park for €75 euros, (which was more than parking garages, but there were none nearby). The choice of cold food was fantastic but the "hot" food was limited choice, bland and tepid. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff very helpful, but I do feel we should have been warned the Superior double rooms were in a poor situation, in addition, for residents, I feel €25 per night car parking is excessive. Suffice to say we shall not go back.
SALE PRICES HIGHER THAN REGULAR PRICES DUE TO PER NIGHT CHARGES INCREASED DURING SALE
I waited until the recent Blue Monday sale started on in hopes the price will come down
I was watching the prices previous to sale and now the cost of the stay while on sale.
The vacation cost actually went up!
It was $4800 approx. before the sale and $5200 approx. during the sale
The reason being it seems they raised the per night rate and then discounted off this.
(not on sale price per night was around $650/night and on sale the per night was increased to approx $900 for same dates)
Very misleading and disingenuous.
Again, It ends up costing more on sale than I could’ve booked the week prior not on sale.
Bahia Principe complex property is on sale for about $1400 USD less (family of 4) for the same booking dates!

Very dishonest company
Very dishonest company. Hopefully they bankrupt. I’m surprised at how dishonest their sales agents are. Ana Johnson being one of them. Don’t recommend booking with Barcelo. Needs to be reported. I have everything recorded, company is gunna get sued.
Customer care and understanding is…
Customer care and understanding is strong 0. We booked trip to see volcano on Lanzarote we went to bus on the morning but our daughter got sick. We inform lady which lead the tour. She said then she understood and I need to just contact with number provided and all be ok. When I explain all to the customer service they said then they can’t do nothing unless I will provide doctor cert for 140€ when trip is 150€. They just want their money. All good if nothing accidentally happens.
Vergogna!!!!!’
Arrivato da poche ore e già me ne vorrei andare
Arrivato da poche ore e già me ne vorrei andare.
Shocking service and standards
Customer service is not something that this hotel believes in. Staying at Lanzorte active hotel; have to go home urgently and the hotel refuse to offer a refund. This in part i can wrap my head around but LYING it's the booking agents rules and not theirs is unacceptable when the booking agent are 100% not responsible- i have a message from them saying that.
Then the food - it's completely inedible - it's worse than school canteen. Someone should tell the chef to stop using soo much salt in everything.
It's a complete rip off and just the atmosphere of the place is just off.

Ace Hotel
We just stayed at the Barceló hotel in Benidorm. It was a lovely stay. We were there two nights. The rooms are lovely massive comfortable beds nice shower with separate toilet. All the staff are very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is included but we had to leave at 6.15 in the morning of the second night so we couldn’t have breakfast but they arranged a packed picnic box for us to take with us. We also asked the night before if we could book a taxi to Alicante airport which they did. It turned up at the time we asked. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Mal servicio

Be very careful if booking through Hotels.com
I booked the dates incorrectly by mistake. As soon as I realised I contacted them and Barcelo Hotel. Both refused to change the dates even though it was with two months notice unless I paid the full fee again.
It was obviously a genuine mistake as the dates were the 13th December to the 17th December. I meant to book the 13th January to the 17th January 25.
A would have thought a hotel as large as the Barcelo could have easily altered the dates without charge regardless of terms and conditions.
As a pensioner I cannot afford to go away. Flights wasted.
Scam LANZAROTE TEGUISE!
Was in this in may 2024.
Food choice very poor - was always missing things and was not refilled back .
Very outdated
The shocking thing is that i checked in , oaid extra for early check in and someone entered in my room without knocking . i was half nacked.
Reported and the GRM said “ we will investigate what you want me to do for you?” - thwy shoukd find a solution not me!
No gesture no follow up.
I reported after and i received an email. Promising me a preferred rate for ALL the properties and a FREE upgrade for board.
Nice no?
Well took me 10 days to get a discount code that does not qork unless you book the highest rate ( even if you are member) and been told they can not guarantee a board upgrade as is a different property.
I have ALL THE PROOF - but i cant attach a screenshot.
I feel so misslead and manipulated and noone acknolwedge you!
SCAM SCAM SCAM BARCELO LANZAROTE TEGUISE - just take money get people ebetrring inside ur room and then no apology
Do not go all inclusive. In fact, don’t go at all!
We arrived at Barcelo Playa Blanca Royal Level on September 11 for 5 nights in the suite and 4 in a swim-up room. We received champagne and excellent service on our late night arrival from those staff members. Rishi, a receptionist, assured us that my friend would have vegan options available every day, and that he would contact the kitchen to make sure they were informed of my friend’s dietary requirements. He also upsold the all-inclusive package to us, which we purchased the next day. Rishi was by far the leading example of hospitality at the resort.
The suite floor was filthy yellow and stained our socks, bags, and clothes—it had not been mopped prior to our arrival. The cleaners did a sub-par job on the room each day, not always replenishing items or the trash.
Magical Restaurant (which needs renaming, because it is a complete joke of an experience):
First few days, waiters didn’t know what options were on the menu. Other times, they would just say “cod” or “chicken” without specifying the flavour, the condiments, or how it was cooked. The worst waiter was the older Spanish male, 50-55. First time we met him, he walked over to our table and sneered at me, said “Yeah?” and got his notepad out. No hello, no welcome, no professionalism. I asked for a Coca Cola with a slice of lemon. He huffed at me and snickered, “Well, if we have it. Otherwise, no.” Then he turned to my friend for his order. I looked at my friend in shock. We then received the wrong drinks shortly after, with a long wait for them to correct it. The next night, we overheard the same waiter complaining to another Spanish guest about having to serve us again, then he approached and said “What do you want?” with attitude. We waited more than 45 minutes for food and drinks which I chased him for 3 times, and another table was served ahead of us despite us arriving first. He did not apologise once. One evening, an alarm went off for around 45 minutes from inside the pool bar, disrupting everyone on the terrace. Numerous staff members ignored it, and had no interest in turning it off until several people had complained.
On day 4, we complained to the guest relations manager about the disgusting older waiter and our experience in general at that point. She was hostile upon sitting down with her, and displayed no empathy or apology. Given her role and the fact that guests who go to her are already going to be upset or angry and need a calm, reassuring presence to interact with, it was very disturbing. We asked about downgrading back to B&B for breakfast and lunch. She refused and said, “They won’t allow it, only breakfast and dinner.” We were annoyed, especially as we were the only guests paying for a suite in the entire resort and spending upwards of £6,000 for it. We also requested to have a swim-up room either facing the pool or the restaurant for the remainder of our stay, booked weeks in advance. She told us we had been allocated the car park-facing room with nothing else available. We therefore decided to remain in the suite and had to pay thousands more for the rest of our stay. Despite all the terrible experiences, the hotel issued no apology, no resolution, and no incentive for us to continue staying for the remaining 5 days. They simply do not care about their guests. We learned they also have staffing issues. I am utterly disgusted with their service. Take our advice—DO NOT GO ALL INCLUSIVE. Visit the nearby restaurants such as La G*ngnan, which is the best Chinese cuisine I have ever had, and has so many amazing beverage options, unlike the limited menu of Barcelo Playa Blanca.
Not tourist friendly
Where do I start? In relation to Rome airport, the Occidental Aran Park Hotel looks close - 13 miles. However, be warned- there is no direct bus to the hotel nor does the hotel have its own shuttle bus. Don’t take the airport bus to Rome thinking like we did that, just because the hotel advertises a bus stop outside that you would be able to get a direct bus from Termini. Nothing is in English so we spent over an hour trying to get a taxi but taxi drivers don’t want business outside the city walls! Finally, we got a taxi for 70 euros!
Having not eaten since the night before we found dinner did not start till 7.30pm and the bar only opened at 6.30pm. The location of the hotel is in a quiet, safe area but with only 2 bars and a Eurospin supermarket for your wine!
We did get to grips with the transport: number 721 or 762 buses do stop near the hotel but only go as far as Laurentina where you must get the Metro for 10 stops to the centre. 100-minute tickets cost 1,50 euro and you can use on both bus and metro. There is NO information about anything at the hotel and the girls on reception were not forthcoming, so you are dependent upon hotel Wi-Fi which is free!
Getting into your room is the next challenge- swipe your card maybe 15 to 20 times and you might get the green light! As mother and daughter, I requested twin beds- we managed with a large double, but the superior room did not exist! Take a shower in the morning as by evening the water is luke warm .
The restaurant on the 7th floor can only be accessed by certain lifts. A superb buffet breakfast but dinner on half board basis comes with warning!
The menu is in Italian only and is restricted to the choice of 2 dishes in each of 3 courses. You can only have 2 dishes overall from the 3 courses - the mains are smaller than the antipasti courses (very stodgy but fills you up!).
If you are vegetarian- you will get a weird look and throw everyone into confusion. I had to plead for vegetable soup which must be off the a la carte menu and has an added cost of 6 euros to the 25 euros allowance. Water and a sweet are included in this cost. We were not offered the wine menu- it was probably extremely expensive anyway!
Service was good on the first night but deteriorated rapidly and we are sure the smarmy manager spoke about us. Signing a receipt every evening for 0 euros appeared a pointless procedure too!
No ‘Have you enjoyed your stay’ on check out! The reception staff were soulless! Booking a taxi was a press of a button and 7 minutes later the 55 euros and 25 minutes journey to the chaotic airport began! Rome ticked off!
Occidental Aran Park Hotel appears a good hotel for the businessperson who can claim travel and food expenses and has no desire to be a tourist in Rome. Otherwise, look elsewhere!
Shambles
Check-In: Upon arrival, I was asked if I needed help with my bags, which I appreciated, but that was one of the few positive aspects of the stay.
Food and Dining: While I found the breakfast food to be quite good, the rest of the food offered was disappointing and not worth the cost.
Cleanliness: The service in the restaurant was poor. Cutlery, glasses, and plates were consistently dirty, and none of the salt grinders worked throughout my stay.
Facilities:
Champs Bar: Both the men's and women's toilets in the bar had no running water, a major hygiene issue.
Leaking Roof: I reported a roof leak in my room over two days, but no one attended to it. After I slipped on the water, I was told to move rooms, and the receptionist’s only response was, "I don't know, I wasn’t working yesterday." This lack of communication and accountability is unacceptable.
Second Room Issues: In the second room I was moved to, the wardrobe collapsed, with a piece of wood nearly hitting me. The nails protruding from it posed a serious safety hazard.
Room Service: In both rooms, tea, coffee, and milk were not replenished, which seemed to be a recurring oversight.
Entertainment: There was a singer performing in Champs Bar, but the atmosphere was ruined by another set of speakers playing different music. When I asked a staff member about it, I was told to queue at the bar to speak to the manager. After following this instruction, the bar manager then directed me to reception, which was unnecessarily time-consuming and frustrating.
Check-Out Issues: To top off our stay, we were not allowed to keep our room past check-out time. Even though our pick-up wasn’t until 17:15 and we checked out at 12:00, there were no shower facilities available for us in the interim. This made the wait very inconvenient, as we were unable to freshen up.
Wristband Malfunction: After going for a walk and lunch, when we returned to the hotel, our wristbands didn’t work at the gate, which added to the overall frustration of the stay.
Customer Care at Check-Out: Upon checking out, the receptionist showed no interest in asking if we had enjoyed our stay or if we had any feedback to provide, which further reflected the lack of care and attentiveness we experienced throughout.
All in all, this was the worst hotel experience I have had in Playa Blanca, despite having visited the area for the past 15 years.
These issues seriously impacted the quality of my stay and left me feeling that the hotel does not meet basic standards in terms of customer service, cleanliness, and safety.
I would appreciate a prompt response and a resolution to this matter, as well as information on what steps you will be taking to prevent such issues in the future. I also expect to be compensated appropriately for this highly unsatisfactory experience
