Straight forward bike insurance!

The application for insurance was simple and smooth. The value presented was exceptional. I had searched many comparison sites and was faced with ridiculous quotes, one was even 4 times the value of the bike for a years cover! However Principal were pragmatic and exceedingly reasonable in my quote and grabbed the opportunity while it existed!

Used multiple times

Never had an issue with them used them 2 times now. Good prices and good customer service the 2 times I have had to phone. I think peoples main issue seems to be they need to pass documents to them. Which isn't hard its an online portal/ email you just need your licence as a picture, DVLA code, proof of no claims and something with your name and address on it. It says within 14 days but if you phone up and its something like your new policy wont start in 14 days so you don't have the actual document they will happily wait its not a big issue its not an automatic policy scrapped kinda thing. I don't get peoples issue with this process( unless they lie to get it cheaper then realise oh no I need to prove stuff) as I always had to prove my no claims to insurance company's since what stops you claiming 10 years otherwise ? They are a broker though so that's why you get high fees for cancellation and it takes forever for refunds so worth weighting if its worth it to you. When I sold my bike last year it took me about 3 weeks for a refund. To me it is worth it since all that information in theory should help claims go through since you were upfront gave all the information there is less wiggle room for denying a claim though paperwork reasons if you ask me could be wrong though never had to claim!

Cancel Policy

Took out a policy and needed to cancel immediately as part of the policy did not match my requirements when they sent through the full policy documents.

Despite the policy only just being taken out took a £55 service charge to cancel.

Strongly don't recommend

Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service – no response for over a month

I have been trying to contact this company for over a month regarding my no-claims bonus, and I have received absolutely no response.

I have been calling daily and sending multiple emails, but no one has replied or taken responsibility. This is extremely frustrating and unprofessional.

I already have written confirmation from them stating that I am eligible for an 8-year no-claims bonus, but I am unable to obtain the official proof because they are simply not responding.

This has now put me in a difficult situation, as I have already taken out insurance with another company.

Very disappointing experience—would not recommend.

Absolute Joke

Service was a joke.
My partners mum paid the deposit for his moped as we had surprised him for his birthday getting insurance and a moped for him. He is able to ride a bike no issues with that end, he also had an additional rider.
Proceeded to email him an hour after insurance was paid, to tell him he needs to send all all sorts of documentation. That no other insurance company has ever asked for he has had multiple bikes in the past as well as me and his mum.
We stated we wanted to cancel, as we are currently moving and will not be able to find the documents as everything is in storage for the next few weeks and they said they would cancel if they didn’t receive the documents. My mother in law then rings up to cancel the insurance, which then the staff are rude. And tell her (an hour after the deposit was paid) that they will not refund any of the deposit and they will be taking an extra £25. I’m telling you now it does not cost £70 (including cancelling fee) to insure a moped for an hour that didn’t even get ridden!! Absolute joke. Never again will we be using them!

Recently taken out motorbike insurance with Principal Insurance. Competitive quote given & straight forward to set up by phone with Customer Services or on-line. 😊😊

Nothing but issues,
Took out a policy for my 16 year old daughter for a moped … after paying they email asking for utility bill and national insurance numbers etc I phoned them(1hr 7mins to get through) and said she’s 16 so doesn’t have utility bills etc wanted pictures of her driving licence, national insurance numbers etc sorted that then had a email saying as she’s 16 she can’t pay direct debit and the insurance will be void …. It was set up with my bank detail so another 2 hours on the phone to sort that in the end I cancelled the policy (day after I took it out) didn’t have any email to confirm so yet again another 1hr 30 mins on the phone to cancel again … charged for cancelling it but told the rest will be paid back to me …. Still no refund emailed 3 times has no response tried to ring today after nearly 1hr40mins of trying to speak to somebody I gave up … worse company to deal with I’ve ever come across and still not had the money back they owe me…

Update…. Just had a email saying refunds can take up to 90 days ….. 3 months for a refund ??

Cancelled policy 2 days after starting…

Cancelled policy 2 days after starting and 4 days before it started! got charged £55.00 for the pleasure, i had tried within those 2 days to contact customer services by email and telephone but got no response, so thought this outfit is a waste of time, so opened another policy with another company with superb customer services. i would dread to think what they would be like if need to make a claim!

Tried to ring customer services and on each occasion hung up after 15 minutes so sent an email to cancel policy which isn’t due to start till the end of the month.got a automated reply to my email but herd nothing else . 6 days later I get a email asking how they did! So I rang again still no answer. Customer service is nil . So at the moment they still have my full premium and have not been in touch and I can’t get in touch with them.

I am 70 yrs old, I arranged cover for my son and myself on YP400 Yamaha Scooter, less than 24 hrs later I cancelled the policy, due to a change in circumstances.
Be advised the insurance was not due to commence until the 29th April 26.
I was told I had to pay approx £50 to cancel, which I reluctantly did.
I note in other reviews mention the list of required documents to proceed, I agree it is extreme and I think particularly aimed at the Motorcycling community, eg since when has a renewal notice not been proof of NCB?
Also Principal Insurance do not answer their reviews.
I was using Go Compare, i've reported this matter to them
